Piling Case Study 1
In 2003 HWC Ltd was consulted and asked to re build a conservatory in Stockport.
The conservatory was 9 years old and had begun to sink forwards.
It was of plastic design with a dwarf wall type construction with a Marley modern concrete tile roof.
The size was approx 12 foot wide by 14 foot deep Victorian style.
The weight of the existing roof was approx 4 tonnes.
Inadequate ground conditions were the cause of the movement; however the roof type was a contributory factor.
The frames had bellied and cracked and began to part from the wall.
I gave a report and stated that in six months time you will see further movement and damage.
The stress on the plastic frames was so great it began to twist.
To do this there must have been force of at least 10 tonnes. It was a hopeless task and would need to be rebuilt.
